Recently, Professor Rong Ziqiang’s research group of Academician Huang Wei of Northwestern Polytechnical University has made important progress in the field of asymmetric C(sp3)-C(sp3) cross-coupling. The research team developed two transition metal catalytic systems, namely, cheap metal cobalt and nickel, to realize the hydroalkylation of inactive cyclic internal olefins with excellent regioselectivity and enantioselectivity, which provided a new idea for the study of asymmetric C(sp3)-C(sp3) cross-coupling. The study provides an efficient and universal scheme for the precise construction of different substituted chiral pyrrolidines, especially 3-substituted chiral pyrrolidines which are difficult to synthesize by traditional methods. The research results were published in J. Am. Chem. Soc., a top international journal in the field of chemistry, with the title “Divergent Access to Chiral C2- and C3-alkylated Pyrrolidines by Catalyst-Tuned Regio- and Enantioselective C(sp3)–C(sp3) Coupling”, which was selected as the cover article.
