On May 24th, the BRICS Index on Development of Industrial Internet and Digital Manufacturing was released in Xiamen, Fujian. The index shows that the development of industrial internet and digital manufacturing in BRICS countries has notable characteristics and respective advantages. Among them, China shows obvious advantages in the comprehensive evaluation result of BRICS countries.

According to Zhang Xiaoyan, Vice President of China Center for Information Industry Development, the Index on Development of Industrial Internet is a comprehensive evaluation based on four first-level indicators, including basic environment, industrial development, market vitality and international influence, and eight second-level indicators. The comprehensive evaluation result shows that China (39.15) and India (35.87) have certain development advantages, while Russia (34.00), Brazil (31.44) and South Africa (30.81) still have much room for improvement. The design and evaluation result of the BRICS Index on Development of Industrial Internet show that China and Russia have advantages in the basic environment; Brazil and South Africa have strong competitiveness in industrial development; India and Brazil are ahead of other BRICS countries in market vitality; and India and China have increasing international influence.

The Index on Development of Digital Manufacturing is comprehensively evaluated based on four first-level indicators, including coordinated development, industrial development, scientific and technological innovation and environment, and ten second-level indicators. China’s digital manufacturing is in a leading position with a total score of 37.5, followed by Brazil, Russian, Indian and South Africa. The development of digital manufacturing in BRICS countries has distinct characteristics: Brazil and China are leading in coordinated development and scientific and technological innovation; and India and South Africa are leading in industrial development and environment, in which Russia also has fundamental strength.

         The BRICS Index on Development of Industrial Internet and Digital Manufacturing was compiled by China Center for Information Industry Development under the joint guidance of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Fujian Provincial People’s Government and Xiamen Municipal People’s Government, and with the support of Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology. It is a systemic and comprehensive evaluation, by means of quantitative analysis, of the development status and cooperation potential of industrial internet and digital manufacturing, and a reference for further cooperation among BRICS countries.
